3. Evaluate Manufacturing Capabilities: Match your desired material class (metals, polymers, ceramics, fabrics) to active production methods (CNC machining, injection molding, casting, sewing). Avoid placing materials into incompatible processes.
4. Analyze Cost & Budget Targets: Balance raw material prices, tooling CapEx amortizations, and the expected product lifespan to hit target unit costs.
5. Assess Circularity & Sustainability: Consider the environmental carbon footprint, recyclability profile, and whether it is bio-based or petrochemical-based.
6. Prototype and Test: Build alpha/beta prototypes (3D printed, CNC-machined, or vacuum-cast) to evaluate real-world durability and ergonomic tactile feedback before committing to expensive steel tooling.

1. Quantity Check: Start with the expected volume. Low runs (<200) point to FDM/SLA printing or CNC. Mid runs (200-2,000) favor vacuum casting or sheet metal. Mass runs (5,000+) mandate injection molding, stamping, or metal casting.
2. Geometry Match: Flat or 2D-extruded profiles are perfect for sheet metal or CNC cutting. Hollow shapes require blow molding or rotomolding. Highly complex, thick-and-thin casings require injection molding or casting.
3. Cost Target Amortization: Upfront tooling (CapEx) must be amortized over the production run. For instance, a ₹4,00,000 mold for 1,000 units adds ₹400/unit, whereas for 100,000 units it adds only ₹4/unit.
